What we do

Integrative medicine is an approach to care that puts the patient at the center and addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect a person’s health.

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

Sometimes, explaining acupuncture is easy, and other days, it’s not.

Records and books prove that Asian and Indian doctors implemented acupuncture over 4000 years ago.

Acupuncture Physicians use thousands-of-years-old formulas and acupoints that still work. We can now also document the results.

For a simple definition, acupuncture is a modality that involves gently inserting very fine needles into the skin in a shallow depth, while Oriental Medicine (OM) is the description of a modality that implements diagnosis techniques and needles, herbs, Gua Sha, and moxa to treat health problems.

Nutrition

After the initial consultation and/or treatment, some patients realize they suffer from additional issues. Our questionnaire helps us to put your whole picture together, including your current nutritional status. Remember you are not complaining but explaining to us what is happening in your life.

We always like to know what supplements you take, and we may change your dosage, add additional supplements, or discourage you from taking other supplements depending upon the best course of treatment for you. We have found that people tend to take more supplements than they need.

Homeopathy

Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) is the founder of homeopathy. He was a German physician, chemist, and medical translator. He wanted to find a safer, gentler, more effective type of medicine. He admired the ancient idea of “like cures like.” He took the two words from the Greek language for “similar” and “suffering” to describe his new health care system.

Homeopathic medicine is made from substances in nature. Many of the medicines today have been developed from minerals and/or plants. Dr. Hahnemann found a way to reduce the harmful side effects of medicines by diluting them into micro-doses.

Homeopathy is very safe and gentle for all chronic and acute problems. It is also inexpensive. It is practiced in most countries. In Europe, homeopathy is a popular form of health care. In fact, you can choose between allopathic or homeopathic medicine when you to your doctor or pharmacy. In the United States, for the most part, only “alternative” practitioners use homeopathy.

This was not always so. At the beginning of the twentieth century, one in every five medical doctors was a homeopath. Over a hundred homeopathic hospitals and twenty homeopathic medical schools existed. Homeopathy is credited for saving countless lives during a nationwide flu epidemic. After changes in medicine early in the last century, the schools gradually closed. The demise was due to politics and allopathic doctors with the advent of the mass production of prescription drugs. Now, there is a resurgence and interest in homeopathy in the United States, and schools are opening again. In 1992, the National Institutes of Health appointed a group of health professionals to evaluate the validity of all alternative therapies, including homeopathy.

Acuset

When a patient is tested by the computerized electrodermal screening for the AcuSET™ protocol equipment, he or she holds a moistened brass rod in one hand while the technician touches an acupuncture point with a probe connected to the machine.

This action creates a circuit with a very small, unfelt current running through the patient.

The amount of resistance experienced at that point or the amount of current flowing (conductance) can be measured. The patient feels nothing more than a little pressure.

Neurotransmitters

The human nervous system is one of the most complex systems in nature. It is responsible for coordinating thousands of processes, from muscle contraction to crying. The center of the nervous system is in the brain, which contains over 100 billion specialized cells called neurons.

The nervous system also contains important chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. The brain uses neurotransmitters to tell your heart to beat, your lungs to breathe, and your stomach to digest. Neurotransmitters are also necessary for thought processes, emotions, and other essential body functions including sleep, energy, and fear.

Bach Flower Remedies

Dr. Edward Bach (1886-1936) was a physician in England at the beginning of the last century and was introduced to homeopathy in medical school. He noticed that certain emotional symptoms would appear with specific physical symptoms. After years of research, he developed thirty-eight different flower remedies to help his patients along with the very famous Rescue Remedy. After you complete your questionnaire, we will determine the correct flower essences to use as an adjunct to your treatment.

Herbology | Herbal Medicines

Approximately 25% of all medicines used today are derived from natural sources. Herbal Medicines are classified by the FDA as dietary supplements. You need to know that herbs can be very strong and are wonderful alternative medicines when prescribed carefully by a trained practitioner.

In Oriental Medicine, we are trained to diagnose in a very complete way. We also know the drug-herb interactions.

In this clinic, we are very careful where the herbal medicines come from and how they are processed.

Common foods and spices are herbal in nature. A popular one is turmeric which is wonderful for inflammation and garlic for a lot of health issues.
We will find the right formulas (in tablet or capsule form) for you to get you healthy.

Acupressure

Acupressure is something you can do for yourself. There are thousands of Acupoints on the body. Our first response to pain is to touch “it.” If you can safely do that—go ahead—it’s your body.

Ask for a demonstration of the specific points for your conditions. For example toothaches, constipation, and sinus problems. You can rub the web between your thumb and index finger. For panic and anxiety rub around on the side of your wrist.
